it is so hard to believe that tomorrow is thanksgiving. i am pretty much still in denial that its november and he we are already thinking about december next week. eek.
as we get ready to celebrate thanksgiving i am always reminded of a very scary, fun and exciting thanksgiving just five years ago. that year i was pregnant with kman and due 12/31/06. so that wednesday of thanksgiving week i had my 34 week doctors appointment. i had already had several restrictions throughout that pregnancy and earlier that month i was told i couldn't travel for the holidays...which wasn't the end of the world; but i didn't get to spend that holiday with my mom-because she went to visit relatives. by 30 weeks i was pretty swollen EVERYWHERE, trying to keep my feet propped whenever i could, etc...but nothing seemed to help much. the doctors kept passing off the swelling as normal, so i wasn't completely worried until that wednesday, the 34 week appointment. they checked my legs and the doctor wasn't completely excited by the fact that my skin wasn't bouncing back after being pushed in. the impression from her finger lasted awhile...not great.
so...i was sent home with a container to collect urine over the long weekend and strict instructions to keep my feet propped up any chance i got. for the most part i felt pretty good, so i wasn't too worried.
i specifically remember sitting around the thanksgiving table at my mother in laws house with my feet propped up while everyone debating on whether the baby was going to be a boy or a girl. i think i was hoping more for a boy but i really wasn't convinced either way which the babe might end up being. i am pretty sure it was about this time i was nagging the hubs to finalize the girls name. he was promising to read the books and go through the list but with six weeks to go the girls name wasn't finalized. i think it seemed like the end of the world too me. i am sure i was having nightmares that our baby would be nameless forever :) if it happened to be a girl, anyway. the boys name had been mostly decided on for awhile; but we never officially gave it the final stamp...we weren't announcing it because it really wasn't totally 100%. (if you'll recall from doodle's birth story (here (part 1) , here (part 2) and here (part 3)) that we didn't have a final name at all and he wasn't decided on until he was born-we are so bad!)
its amazing to be here five years later celebrating with both my little miracles. how thankful i am that God has blessed me with two healthy boys. life doesn't always go as planned, and sometimes its happy and sometimes its disappointing, it really is just like forest and his mama said "life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are gonna get".
happy thanksgiving 2011.
here is a pic of me at a baby shower about a week before thanksgiving. just a bit swollen? (in a few places) ha-ha!
