surprise, it finally happened!

date night was a success!  the hubs had said he had an "idea" where we were going...but i think he was full of bologna, because once we arrived at our destination he was in deed SURPRISED, so YIPEE!!!  getting there has been a different story.

so let me start this story three weeks ago.  the hubs is a BIG basketball fan...he follows a local college team very, very closely.  i was on my way home three monday nights ago and it was about 8pmish and the coach of the local college team was on the radio.  he does a weekly show at a local restuarant, one of hubs favorite places.  it happens at 8pm on Monday nights during the season, so we've never been while this goes on.  but...i thought if i could get a sitter-we could go....ding-ding.  sounds easy, right?
the next day, i checked the listings, to verify it was going to happen the next week.  checked with father in law and stepmother in law to see if they were open the following monday.  yes, they were.  i didn't know all the specific details but asked them to be at our house at 6pm.
monday came...i rushed home to get the kids, had to run around the house getting a few things ready because the painter was coming the next day all while stalling dinner.  i was trying to push dinner off, so the hubs and i wouldn't eat and he'd be surprised when they showed up.
well...a little before 6 the hubs showed up at home and i sent him around the house doing things in prep for the next day and i think he was looking at me like i had two heads because i wasn't cooking dinner.
he started to help with dinner and started eating.  6pm came and went and no inlaws (these folks are typically early...so i was getting a bit worried and thought maybe they thought i said 6:30pm, so they should be here any minute.)
well the evening wore on, they didn't show...i barely ate.  what happened.  did i tell them the wrong date?  we had communicated via email, so i figured i would wait till morning to check my email and verify i hadn't written the wrong day/time.  i eventually told hubs that i was trying to surprise him, but i never told him where-just in case we did actually make it.
the next morning, i checked my email and i had specifically said, "next monday" so i then got worried.  checked in with the in-laws and they were fine...just a miscommunication.  no biggie.  i wasn't upset and because the hubs had no idea, it was fine.

anywho...the team has done really well in the tournament, so i figured we'd try again.  this time we were all confirmed and hubs had no idea, UNTIL t-ball got scheduled for the same night, ugh really?  i told him i was trying to redo my surprise, but he still had no idea.  at this point, he said he had somewhat figured it out....oh well.  i still didn't give up my surprise.
last night came, same deal...picked up the boys.  kman immediately started complaining about a headache.  i figured he was hungry and a bit dehydrated from playing outside that afternoon...remember its 80+ degrees outside and its MARCH.
come home start making dinner...kman is complaining more.  he is sitting at the table crying...hubs comes home trying to figure out what is going on...both of us forcing kman to try and drink water.  in the mist of the chaos, grandma and grandpa show up 25 minutes early (see ALWAYS early).  everything comes crashing down...kman is upset, crying, sweating.  we ALL try to get him to eat, to settle down, i want him to take some tylenol.  he refuses.  i eventually get it down...not ideally.  now he thinks he might throw up?  omg, really?
he goes to lay down for a bit...falls asleep.  the hubs try to take him some toast and he throws up.  well...what do we do now?  is he really sick?  did he make himself so upset that he actually threw up? is it the headache?  should we go?

eventually all was well...a bit chaotic, but he ended up being fine.  i think it was a combination of the heat, lack of food and a little upset that mom and dad were going to leave.   he ended up missing t-ball...which i kind of feel bad about, but...it happens i guess.

unfortunately both boys seem to be going through a separation anxiety phase at that moment.

after all of that the plan ended up being a success and we had a great time and even managed to get home in time to get to bed at a decent hour.
