bedrest, schmedrest

last week i started telling you about my thanksgiving five years ago (check that out here) when i was pregnant with kman.  the wednesday before thanksgiving i was sent home with a large jug to collect urine over that weekend and i delivered it promptly chilled to the doctors office on monday morning.  my week went on like normal and honestly i think i kind of forgot about the whole thing.  mid day on wednesday after i'd returned from a co-workers lunch at the chinese buffet (pregnant lady paradise!  ha-ha!) i got a call from the nurse at the doctors office. the conversation went something like this:
nurse:  "hi, its cheryl from such and such doctors office, is this your work number?  you are at work now?"
ok, um wierd...why does she care
me:  "yes, i am at work now!"
nurse:  "well, effective now, you are being put on bedrest"
ummmm....what?????
me: "um, ok...what does that mean?"
nurse:  "it means that you will only be allowed to get out of bed to shower, you'll have to stop working now and go home"
ok, ordinarily the demand to stop working would sound awesome, (today i wish someone would call with that demand...but its not happening-atleast not yet)  at that point i hung up with the nurse stunned and started crying.  my old boss was having a meeting about 10 feet away from me, so i was careful not to draw too much attention to myself.  of course i immediately hung up to call the hubs.  he was a bit confused and didn't quite get it himself...so we did a conferene call back to the nurse to get the full scoop and between us both we asked a ton of questions.
of course nothing changed...i was still "immediately" on bedrest and was only supposed to be allowed out of bed to shower and potty. huh?  ugh.
i still had over five weeks until my due date and i hadn't even found a temporary replacement for my position at workand had a million things to do.  i couldn't just get up and walk out.
i ended up working out a really good working arrangement with my boss and stayed late that day to get myself in a good place (what was a couple more hours?) and the hubs hit the grocery store because he was charged with cooking all of my meals for the next few weeks as i  couldn't get out of bed, remember?
i will tell you...bedrest was not fun.  after about a day or so it wore on me and i was ready to get up and do something.  i never felt sick or bad, so it was extremely annoying to just lay around.  i knew in my heart of hearts it was the best thing for the baby...but i complained (ALOT).  thankfully, i was still working from the comfort of my cozy couch and on the plus side i was really caught up on all the latest tv and i watched several episodes of a "baby story" (thank you TLC) to get myself prepared for my own birthing experience.
