let's hang in the basement

so last night hubs had softball and after i picked up the boys from the daycare school we headed home and ate dinner; it was a lovely afternoon...warm and sunny...and kman couldn't wait to get outside.  he rushed to finish eating and ran next store to see if his best bud was available to come out and play.  unfortunately they weren't home, so he played by himself on our swingset.  i know its not his favorite thing to do...but he just wants to be outside-which i LOVE!  doodle and i quickly cleaned up and i took him outside as well...he is LOVING the slide on the swingset and is trying to figure out how to climb up it.  REALLY?  he's barely started walking 3 weeks ago and we are already climbing up slides?

eventually we made our way inside and the boys got a quick bath.  doodle was exhausted; they've started taking him outside at the daycare school as well and letting him play on the playground with the 18 month olds.  it kind of made me sad the other day when i went to pick him up and they said, "oh doodle's outside-didn't you see him?".  he's just a little bub and he's not supposed to be outside yet; that's for big kids.  my baby...isn't a baby anymore...he's playing outside trying to climb up slides and such.  :(
anyway, doodle was exhausted so the bath was enough to put the little man over the edge; he barely finished his sippy cup and his eyes were closed.  as i held him the tornado sirens started going off; which was a complete surprise given just 10 minutes ago we were outside in the sun.

ok, so is this a tornado warning or is this a thunderstorm warning with a tornado watch?  how are you supposed to know.  with kman still in the bath-i turned on the tv, to get the scoop and it appeared it was a true tornado warning.  ok, get kman out of the bath...dressed and waited for a few minutes.  because it just appeared to be a bit windy and the storm was still about 10 minutes away-according to the tv.

the sirens went off again and the tv instructed us to get to our "tornado safe place"  (the basement in our case!) and so i told kman to come with me, got the dog to follow and grabbed doodle.  kman was totally confused and i didn't want to scare him...so i just told him we were going to sit downstairs until daddy got home.  he just thought it was "cool" to sit downstairs in the basement on lawn furniture and watch tv :)

surprisingly, we were down there for about an hour and doodle slept in my arms the whole time.  he's not a cuddly baby...despite both of greg and mine's effort.  he's much more comfortable doing his own thing, which is fine...but we both miss the snuggles sometimes.

thankfully we are all ok, and i don't think we had any actual tornado's in the area, just the strong winds and rains.  as i made my drive this morning i saw tons of downed tree limbs, but thankfully nothing too serious.  of course as i sat in my basement my thoughts were immediately to those in missouri....so sad and scary for sure.
