lenten wishes...

ugh, what i wouldn't do for lovely, yummy donut this morning.  why i have no idea...but my brain says give
me some yummy fatty goodness.  it's fat tuesday-so WHY NOT?  (i chose a nice sugar free life saver instead-i know my hips will thank me later...but ugh!) which reminds me i really need to come up with something to give up during lent.
this is what e.how says about choosing:
  1. Make sure your sacrifice is challenging, yet still something you can actually do. Everyone would like to give up work or cleaning, but that really isn't a sacrifice!
For instance, if you are a sweets lover you can give up sweets for Lent. Since this may be impossible for you to do entirely, maybe just give up your favorite sweet or one kind of sweets (like cookies OR candy).
  2. Instead of giving something up, DO SOMETHING. Our parish priest once explained to us that a Lenten sacrifice did not have to be something you give up. It could in fact be something you DO, as long as it is a sacrifice.
This Lent, consider DOING something. Of course it has to be something you don't enjoy - playing golf more ofen doesn't count! Maybe take over one of your spouse's household chores or clean up the kitchen every night after dinner.
  3. Some sacrifices, can benefit you in addition to being a sacrifice. Like promising to exercise every day ( or 3x a week). If you hate exercising and have been trying to get motivated to start an exercise program - or stick with one - make that your Lenten sacrifice. This could work with dieting, paying bills on time, being more organized etc. You are making a sacrifice, but in the end you benefit from your changed behavior.
  4. Some people make combination sacrifices. Like giving up the daily Latte AND donating the money to a much needed charity.
  5. Think long and hard about what kind of sacrifice you are going to make and choose something wisely. Make sure it IS a sacrifice, but that it's also something you can do for forty days!
hmmm....so i have really been slacking on the whole exercise thing.  maybe i can commit to that?  maybe i need to commit to cleaning out the basement and getting my items categorized and donated to the appropriate places?  i like where this is going.

tonight we're supposed to have dinner at church, a pancake dinner (oh that's great for my diet).  hopefully we'll make it-kman coughed most of the night last night-hopefully he'll have a better day today.  (fingers crossed x)  he's hardly ever sick (knock on wood).  thankfully little doodle's runny nose hasn't turned into much more than that.  greg took his sound machine into the daycare yesterday, hoping it would help with him napping there-apparently it helped his neighbor :)  (OF COURSE it did!)  by 7pm my littlest man is just done for the night-so hoping that longer naps during the day will help.

if you didn't know-last week was dr suess's birthday.  (march 2nd) i don't ever remember celebrating as a kid..but apparently its a big to-do now a days.  dr suess has actually been a favorite in our house-"green eggs and ham, as well as "the cat in the hat" have been two books that hubs and i have read to kmansince he was wee-little.  kman's classroom celebrated dr suess' birthday by making these cute hats.
