doodle's 1st bday party

so the birthday party went off without a hitch...well no actual hitches anyone saw.  i'll spare you the details of the cake baking (up till 2am, 3 trips to kroger (a forgotten wallet, two different kroger locations that ended being closed (ours closes at midnight-who woulda thunk it?)) a messy kitchen, asking why? oh why? i decided it was a good idea to bake my own cake? tell me again?  but i refused to let some batter and a crappy pan defeat me!) and the result was an absolute yummy cake if i do say so myself!  not that i ate half the cake myself or anything?  (it seems that way-i am sure the scale will remind me, when i decide its time to face the music!)

but wah-lah...the finished product

i am certainly no cake boss...but for having not decorated in a couple of years...i felt like i did a pretty good job and of course my "practice cakes" taught me a few things along the way.

i had this glorious plan of doing as much as i could on friday night and saturday morning, so i would only have last minute things to do on sunday and would actually be dressed and ready to go when folks started arriving...but i've learned that when you have a plan God laughs at you!  "silly girl!"  in the end everything was finished when guests arrived (thanks to my wonderful mommy, auntie and others!)  i have this thing about having everything out and prepared when folks arrive.  YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!  (of course fabulous hubby was awesome as always!)

i think little doodle had a wonderful time as well.  he didn't know what the heck was going on-but he was happy and content and got to have cake and ice cream, what more could he ask for?  he did a pretty good job with the present opening as well-thankfully most everything was in bags with tissue paper and he totally enjoyed pulling the paper and the items out of the bag.  the stuff he had to unwrap was a little more difficult and lost interest easily, but he's one-we got through it!

big brother did a great job as well...i thought for sure he might get upset that he couldn't open presents-but he did a good job helping and i think he was just excited to celebrate this brother's birthday.  he's been telling everyone that he's "one" now!  so proud!

i really enjoyed celebrating with everyone-and was so glad that the rain held off for most of the afternoon.  it rained before the party and after-but it was dry enough that folks hung out, outside which i what i had hoped for.  the kids even got a chance to play corn hole and mess around on the jungle gym!  yeah!  all in all a success!

today, i am thinking of a former co-worker who lost her battle with cancer on monday.  such a warm, wonderful caring person who had such a zest for life.  rest in peace jc!
